An adage, motto of the Royal Society which could be translated as “don’t take anyone’s word for it”. It is “the will to accept as scientific truth only what can be established by experience, and in no case what would have as only basis the authority of a person”. Above all, it is a phrase that reminds of the importance of studying and judging things for oneself.
